As an events management student that has lived at Avery Hill since enrolling at Greenwich I would love the chance to represent the views of the students living and studying there.
With strong speaking and listening skills, a professional attitude towards the role and a diverse range of creative new ideas of how to improve the student experience at Avery Hill, I feel I am the ideal candidate for this role.
FREEZE OR LOWER ACOMMODATION COSTS
I will meet with both the University Of Greenwich Accommodation Office and Sodexo with the aim to secure lower accommodation fees for students or at least secure a freeze in these for the foreseeable future to prevent further rises in costs.
IMPROVE SAFETY & SECURITY ON AVERY HILL CAMPUS
Safety on campus is seen by many as a big issue and I would aim to continue the work done by the Student's Union in order to improve lighting around the campus and also aim to increase the presence of security staff on a night.
CREATE A REAL 'STUDENT EXPERIENCE' AT AVERY HILL
I will work to ensure that student life at Avery Hill is more like that seen at other universities in the country. This would be done by improving the social aspect of Avery Hill including bringing larger and higher profile events to Sparrows Farm and creating new Student Union roles of a representative for each court to run 'court events' and develop a community feel. I will also look into the prospect of a late night Avery Hill shuttle to ensure students can safely, economically and easily return from the proposed new Student's Union venue in Greenwich.
IMPROVE AVERY HILL BUS SERVICE
Avery Hill's location can create problems at times for students. If elected I would campaign to ensure buses to Greenwich run until lectures finish, aim to achieve more frequent buses and ensure the bus service remains free for students. I would also begin discussions with the university about extending the bus service to the Woolwich Campus.
AVERY HILL NURSERY
Continue the current campaign to reopen the Avery Hill nursery in order to ensure childcare issues do not interfere with or deter students from studying at the University Of Greenwich.
ENCOURAGE POSITIVE DIALOUGE BETWEEN STUDENTS AND SODEXO
I will also aim to encourage the use of myself and the Students Union as a tool for putting student's views across to both Sodexo and the Accommodation Office by engaging in regular meeting with both parties.
I hope you agree that all the points above are crucial to improving student life at Avery Hill and support our view on a Students Union that is run by you, for you.
