My name is Kyle Marchalleck, current Vice-President Campaigns and Representations. For the past six months, I have been representing you and working towards a better Greenwich. I found out the hard way that this is no easy task and has so far been the most difficult role of my life. I have learnt to stand up for myself and others and voice my opinions when necessary. I am already intertwined in the processes of making this University a more fun, fair, safe and accountable environment for students. I would love to continue being your VP Campaigns officer as I have a number of plans and actions that I want to start and continue in the next academic year. For now, here are just a few points I feel passionate about.

 

MEDWAY BUS SERVICE COST

I have already been doing work to reduce the cost of the bus service to and from Medway as well as increase its frequency. I believe that the bus service should be affordable to students. Bus cards, posters, videos and surveys have already been accomplished this academic year, therefore I feel like it is time for the next step.

I will also ensure that the Avery Hill to Greenwich bus service remains free to students and lobby the University to extend it later in the day to accommodate students with later lectures after 6pm.

 

24 HR LIBRARY POLICIES

For the past two years, the Students Union has run effective campaigns to get the Library open for specific 24 hr “peak” periods of time. The University however, has no mandate to do this and can choose whether or not to open or close. I will end the fight once and for all by lobbying the University to write this into policy and fight to keep the library open as long as possible for our students.

 

IMPROVE ENGAGEMENT ESPECIALLY WITH STUDENT MEDIA

Only 10% of students at Greenwich can be classed as “engaged”. Many students don’t take part or even want to take part because they are unaware of the services, activities or benefits of getting involved with the Students Union. I will push for greater engagement by speaking to students directly but also pushing our Student Media to be more visible to students.

 

STRONG “MINORITY” CAMPAIGNS

I feel very passionately about LGBT, Black, Disabled and other “minority” classed students.
I will campaign to get them more engaged, more aware and more represented. I will campaign for their rights and ensure they are treated fairly and equally and raise awareness on any issues they are facing.

 

STUDENT SAFETY & ACCOMMODATION (ALL CAMPUSES)

It is your RIGHT as a student to feel safe on campus and in all campus facilities. Small improvements like adequate lighting between Sparrows bar and halls can make immense differences. I will improve access to information on crucial details like tenant’s rights and assist new students in finding adequate accommodation on and off campus.
